Kainchi Dham ashram with red roofs in forest

Kainchi Dham

The Neem Karoli Baba ashram — beloved by Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and generations of seekers. A small temple complex in a Kumaun forest valley.

Kainchi Dham is a small ashram complex 17 km from Nainital — but its fame has grown massively since the 2000s after Steve Jobs publicly credited his visit here (1974) with shaping his thinking, and Mark Zuckerberg, Julia Roberts, and many others made similar pilgrimages.

The ashram was established by Neem Karoli Baba (“Maharaj-ji”) in 1962. His samadhi here and the Hanuman temple are the focal points. The June 15 annual bhandara draws tens of thousands of devotees and is a logistical challenge — we usually advise visiting on non-bhandara days for a calmer experience.

Most of our Kainchi Dham guests pair it with Nainital, Almora, and (for the adventurous) higher Kumaun like Adi Kailash or Patal Bhuvaneshwar caves.
