Lahaul Spiti
The other Tibet inside India — high-altitude cold desert valleys with thousand-year-old Buddhist monasteries, Chandratal lake, and the world's highest post office at Hikkim.
Lahaul and Spiti — Himachal’s high cold-desert valleys north of the Pir Panjal range — feel more like Tibet than India. The architecture is Tibetan Buddhist, the monasteries are ancient (Tabo dates from AD 996), and the landscape is bone-dry mountain at 3,500-4,500 m.
The circuit opened up dramatically in 2020 with the Atal Tunnel, which bypasses the (often-closed) Rohtang Pass and makes Lahaul reachable from Manali year-round. Spiti — accessed from Lahaul over Kunzum Pass — remains a summer destination (Jun-Oct).
Our Lahaul Spiti package does the full loop: Manali → Lahaul (Sissu) → Chandratal → Kaza → Tabo → Kalpa → Shimla.
