Naini Lake at dusk with hills behind

Nainital

Kumaun's loveliest hill town — built around a turquoise lake at 2,000 m, with the Mall Road, boat rides, and Naina Devi temple on its shore.

Nainital is the hub of the Kumaun region — base for Almora, Mukteshwar, Kainchi Dham, Jim Corbett, and the higher Kumaun destinations (Adi Kailash, Om Parvat). The Naini Lake sits in a glacial bowl surrounded by seven hills, with Mall Road circling the western shore.

Summer (Apr–Jun) gets very busy with Delhi families; post-monsoon (Sep-Nov) is significantly quieter and just as beautiful. Winter (Dec-Feb) sees occasional snow. We typically pair Nainital with Kainchi Dham (Neem Karoli Baba ashram) and Almora for a 5-6 day Kumaun circuit.
