Pangong Lake

The 134 km saltwater lake straddling India-China — turquoise in summer, frozen in winter, and one of the highest landlocked lakes in the world.

Pangong Tso is the destination that made Ladakh famous on Instagram — the 134 km lake straddles India and China, sits at 4,225 m, and changes colour through the day from royal blue to turquoise to grey-green.

Reaching Pangong from Leh takes 5-6 hours via Chang La pass (5,360 m) — the third-highest motorable road in the world. Camps at Spangmik on the western shore are the standard overnight, with sunrise photography being the highlight. Inner Line Permits are required (we arrange).

Pangong is best experienced overnight: day trippers from Leh miss the sunrise, the quietest hours, and the lake’s true colour-shifts. Our Leh Ladakh package includes a Pangong overnight as standard.
