Lakshman Jhula suspension bridge over the Ganga at Rishikesh

✦ Uttarakhand

Rishikesh

The yoga capital of the world — and the gateway to Garhwal Himalaya adventures. River rafting, ashrams, and the Beatles' Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ashram.

25 km upstream from Haridwar, Rishikesh wraps yoga, the Ganga, and the foothills of the Himalaya into one of the most photographed Indian destinations. The Beatles visited Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram here in 1968 — the abandoned ashram is now a graffiti-covered tourist spot.

For most Vacanza Go travellers, Rishikesh slots into a longer Uttarakhand circuit — a day at Lakshman Jhula and the evening Aarti at Triveni Ghat before continuing to Char Dham, Mussoorie, or back to Haridwar. Adventure travellers add white-water rafting (we work with GMVN and RAFA-registered rafting partners).
